Since retiring to Spain, Vernon has maintained his interest in radio presenting.
He has recorded various programmes for Hospital Radio Basingstoke including Smooth Jazz, Late Night Love and one called the’Lunchbox’, which includes not only jokes and anecdotes between the music but also features short stories in the second hour. You can listen to a trailer for the programme by clicking here
He also records a monthly, hour-long magazine programme for HRB called ‘Postcard from Spain’. The programme features his favourite music, together with stories and news items about life here in Spain. The programme has its own web page which features all the Mediterranean recipes used in the programme.
Vernon has also recently recorded a new series of programmes, which are currently broadcast on Friday evenings at 10 o’clock called ‘The Best of….,’ in which he features an hour of songs from such popular singers as Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond and Phil Collins, together with groups such as The Eagles, Abba and the Bee Gees, playing their hits and his favourite tracks from their albums.
Vernon has also taken part in some live link-ups, the most complex and technically challenging of which was a 3-way link between the studio in Basingstoke and New Zealand, home of Andy McCormick, an ex-HRB colleague of Vernons, who presents a similar magazine programme called Postcard from New Zealand.
